DEVELOPERS DONATE 120-ACRE REGIONAL SPORTS PARK TO CITY OF PEARLAND

Ground breaking ceremony to be held on September 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m.

PEARLAND, TEXAS (September 8, 2003) – In a continued effort to maintain the natural environment and enhance the quality of life for all residents, the developers of Shadow Creek Ranch have donated approximately 120 acres to the city of Pearland for use as a regional sports park. Valued at over $11 million, the parkland is located in the northeast section of the community, north of Shadow Creek Parkway on Kingsley Drive.

"Where most master planned communities are trying to get as many rooftops up as possible," said Pearland Mayor Tom Reid, "Shadow Creek Ranch has done its part to maintain open space and has really given careful consideration to protecting and improving the environment."

The respected Landscape Architectural firm of KGA Deforest, created an innovative plan that preserves the natural environment and blends it with the active uses of the regional park, by designing a Wetlands Park and learning experience.

The City of Pearland retained a Park Planning Consultant to insure that the site could accommodate the necessary recreational components associated with a regional park. The conceptual plan provides for those potential components, including:

  • Softball fields
  • Tennis courts
  • Soccer fields
  • Walking and jogging trails
  • Concession centers
  • Aquatic center
  • Recreation Center
  • Children's playground

"Our grand scale vision for this community has always been centered around providing residents with an abundance of active recreational uses combined with  passive open space areas," said Gary Cook, principal of Shadow Creek Ranch Development Company, developer of Shadow Creek Ranch.  "We've allotted over 700-acres for lakes, parks and hiking and biking trails. It's important for our residents to have these amenities in place, to enjoy"

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on the park site September 9, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. All media should attend, as this event will provide great interview and photo opportunities.
